The
AFD has a new Intern Chaplain. If you get
a chance to meet Dannie Rio, please welcome
him into our "Family"

Dannie Ray Rio
He
hails from Virginia where his parents currently
reside. He
is currently completing a Masters of Divinity
Degree at ACU.
He received a Bachelors degree from Harding
University in Missions.
Dannie was a Surface Warfare Officer in the
US Navy for three years.
During that time he served onboard the
guided missile destroyer, USS John S. McCain
DDG 56, home ported in Yokosuka, Japan.
He has recently been commissioned into the
Navy Chaplain Corps and will remain in Abilene
until completion of seminary.
He lives in Abilene with His wife Shelley,
a registered nurse, and both are active members of
the Minter Lane Church of Christ.

Functions of the AFD Chaplain
The Fire Chaplain:
Serves
the Fire Department and those whom they serve by
providing pastoral ministry and support
Advocates
the well-being of the whole firefighter;
physically, mentally, relationally, and
spiritually
Advises
the Fire Department chain-of-command to promote a
climate of excellence and integrity for those
serving as guardians of the public trust
Ensures
the free exercise of religion
Provides
a link to the greater Abilene faith community and
acts as a command liaison to communities,
organizations, and agencies
